Fishing is picking up!

All around the area the fishing is picking up due to the run-off heading out. Let's start in the park! Firehole River The Firehole is heating up literally. After getting pounded pretty good due to being the only fishable river for some time, the fish are wising up to most patterns. Early morning the fish can be seen sipping spent mayflies in the eddies and slackwater. Later in the day they will still eat a nice PMD with a good presentation. Caddis in the evening, make sure you are going with a whiter color. Gibbon The Gibbon is fishing well below the falls with some caddis in the evenings. Up in the meadows there is also a good push of Brown Drakes in the evenings and afternoon hours. Madison In the park early in the morning the fish a sipping spent drowned flies and always taking a nice black bugger stripped finely off the banks. Caddis in the evenings or a yellow or orange stimulator and pheasant tail. Between the park and the lake you can try your luck with a nice beadhead trailing behind a callibaetis spinner can produce some results. Between the lakes is producing fish. The water coming over the dam is at 1500 cfs with flows at 1960 near Cameron. Have seen some stone fly nymphs curled up and floating down between the lakes. Our guides have been doing very well on floats producing some nice browns in the float section down from Lyons. Gallatin River The park section of the Gallatin is shaping up very nice. Clarity is good. Below the Taylor's Fork the water becomes a little more turbid but fish can be caught throughout the day! Starting to get rolling again!

June 14, 2012 Welcome back! We are back on the blog and ready to unleash some new information! Hopefully we can continue to keep this updated with new shop personnel coming and should be able to roll out a new post each week. Let's get started with the good fishing right now! Firehole River: The Firehole is fishing well right now (if you can find a nice piece of water relatively alone). Throughout the day the clarity is good and there are plenty of PMD's coming off. Using a nice soft-hackle PMD or a size 12-16 PMD split wing is producing. Stoneflies are wrapping up in the canyon but you can still arouse a few fish. Best fished on overcast cloudy days. Gibbon River: The Gibbon is starting to produce as well. Slight morning hatch of BWO's and PMD's. Caddis will be starting in the evenings and hopefully Brown Drakes in the coming days. Mostly small fish but some large fish available if you are willing to work. Lower Madison: Bob expects Salmonfly hatch between the 15th and 20th of June at Ennis bridge! Hebgen Lake: Still good midge activity on the lake and yet to see a sign of Callibaetis yet. On a side note: Hebgen outflow was decreased by approximately 10% on tuesday and wednesday. The current outflow will be approximately 1500 cfs after today. Be sure to check in at the shop and talk to the "Shop Guys" for more current reports and selection of flies!
